28 Volumes of "THE WEST COUNTRY MAGAZINE"  Summer 1946 to Autumn 1952.

28 x Softcover First Editions in printed covers, published by the Westaway Press, Ltd, London.  The magazines were edited by Malcolm Elwin initially and subsequently by J. C. Trewin.  Dimensions: 21.5cm x 14.5cm approx.  Ex-Libris copies from Exeter City Library.

These are extremely interesting and quite scarce publications.  There was an earlier magazine of the same name but, this was not related to these magazines.  The magazines contain a range of prose and poetry on West Country subjects by some very well known litereary names including Henry Williamson, T. F. Powys, Llewelyn Powys, Angela du Maurier, Geoffrey Grigson, Ronald Duncan, Valentine Ackland, Joseph Braddock, Sean O'Casey, Eden Philpotts, John Betjeman, V. Sackville-West, A. K. Chesterton, Edith Shackleton, Victor Bonham-Carter and numerous others.

The later volumes contain a number of black and white photographs (normally 2-4 photos per issue) and a all contain local advertisements as well.

Average c.60-70 pages per edition.

Condition:    Generally Good.  The first issue is lacking the rear cover and the front cover is disbound.  Most issues have a fair bit of wear/rubbing/fading to covers as well as some creasing.  Some issues have library stamps.  Internal pages good with just light yellowing and some minor creasing and marks.   One or two issues have a few pages that have come loose from their bindings.  Stapled bindings generally quite tight.
